Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly to us, such as when you submit video reactions, create an account, contact us for support, or interact with our services. This may include:

  • Account information (email address, nickname, hashed password) when you sign up
  • When you submit a reaction, we collect the submitted YouTube watch IDs and process your IP address, which is immediately hashed, for abuse and spam prevention
  • Email addresses when you contact us for support

IP Address Collection: When you submit a reaction, we collect your IP address which is immediately secured using cryptographic hashing. This hashed data cannot be used to identify you personally. We process this information based on our legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR to prevent fraud, abuse, and spam on our platform.

Server Logs

Server access logs are automatically deleted after 14 days.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and improve our reaction finding services
  • Prevent fraud, abuse, duplicate submissions, and spam
  • Respond to your support requests

  • Ensure the security and integrity of our platform

Browser Extension

The YouTube Reaction Finder browser extension (for Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers) is designed to help users find reaction videos for the YouTube video they are currently watching. This section describes the data handling specific to the extension.

What the extension reads

On YouTube watch pages, the extension reads the current video's ID and limited content from the page, including links and references in the video description that indicate the original videos the current video may be reacting to.

What the extension sends

The extension sends the following to the Reaction Finder API:

  • The current video's ID and, when available, original video IDs or content references extracted from the description, in order to look up matching reactions and reaction counts.
  • When a user manually submits a missing reaction, the target video ID and the reaction video ID.
  • Standard request data (such as IP address) as part of normal HTTPS requests, handled as described in the Information We Collect section above.

Remote configuration

The extension fetches a small configuration file from reactionfinder.com containing CSS selectors used to locate elements on YouTube watch pages.

Local storage

The extension uses the browser's local extension storage to remember small UI state, primarily whether the user has opened the update changelog so the red notification dot on the extension icon does not keep showing after it has been checked once. This data stays on the user's device.

What the extension does not collect

  • It does not collect browsing history.
  • It does not monitor clicks, scrolls, keystrokes, mouse movement, or general browsing behavior.
  • It does not read content from pages other than the current YouTube watch page when that page is open.
  • It does not load analytics, tracking scripts, or third-party code inside the extension.

Data Storage & Security

We implement appropriate security measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. Your data is stored securely and is not shared with third parties except as necessary to provide our services.
